Una interesante noticia publicada por ANSA, el 25 de setiembre de 2011, nos habla de un desconocido, para nosotros, documental uruguayo de 1922, titulado "El homenaje de Uruguay a los restos de Sir Ernest Shackleton" de Henry Maurice.

En octubre de 2011, el film fue presentado en las Jornadas de Cine Mudo de Pordenone. Existe una copia de esta película en los archivos históricos del Instituto Antártico Uruguayo...

ROMA, 25 (ANSA) - Las jornadas del Cine Mudo de Pordenone, considerado uno de los 50 mejores festivales del mundo y dedicado exclusivamente a la producción de los primeros 30 años del siglo XX, se abrirá del 1 al 8 de octubre para deleite de sus seguidores.     El festival, que celebra su 30º cumpleaños con la habitual lluvia de propuestas, incluye una curiosidad del cine documental uruguayo de 1922, "El homenaje de Uruguay a los restos de Sir Ernest Shackleton", sobre ese famoso explorador de la Antártida.     La muestra, dirigida por el crítico inglés David Robinson, autor de la más célebre biografía de Charles Chaplin, atrae a entusiastas del cine mudo de todo el planeta.       Organizado por la Cinemateca del Friul, que dirige Livio Jacob, el festival se inaugurará el 1ro de octubre con una copia flamante de "La nueva Babilonia" (Novyy Vavilon), de Grigori Kozintsev y Leonid Trauberg, con la música original de Dmitri Shostakovitch, prohibida por José Stalin y recuperada recién en 1975.    ...     Al documental uruguayo dedicado al explorador de la Antártida se suma el largometraje inglés "South", de Frank Hurley, que narra la desafortunada expedición que concluyó con la muerte de Shackleford, por un infarto, en 1922 ....     Tomado de "El cine mudo vuelve a deleitar a Italia" , por Ernesto Pérez

SYNOPSIS
The lying in state of the body of Sir Ernest Shackleton in Montevideo, Uruguay, and its transfer to ship for burial on the island of South Georgia, 1922.
The film opens with a portrait still of Shackleton, followed by film of one of his expedition companions, Captain Hussey RN, getting out of his car in Montevideo.
Various society mourners arrive by car or on foot to pay their respects to the body, which has a military guard and is lying in a church. (The film shows only the arrival and departure of the mourners, not the interior of the building.)
For transport to the quayside the coffin is given a mounted escort and full military honours.
While a large crowd watches the coffin is placed on a guncarriage, covered with a Union Jack and has wreaths placed over it.
At the quayside the Uruguayan Minister for Foreign Affairs, Doctor Juan Antonio Buero, delivers a speech (quoted in the captions) and the British charg d'affaires replies.
The coffin is loaded onto the exploration ship SS Woodville. The escort of lancers and the crowd departs. The Woodville itself then steams out of harbour.
 Notes Summary: probably a purchase by the Museum, source unknown.
See also IWM 456 Remarks: something of an oddity, and outside the Museum's normal terms of reference, but providing some interesting views of South American society in the early part of the century.
The captioning, both in style and choice of language, is extremely florid
